किसी भी सूरत में, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के जीत के दावे खोखले साबित हो सकते हैं। भले ही मादुरो का शासन दबंगई भरा था, लेकिन वेनेजुएला की यूनाइटेड सोशलिस्ट पार्टी का समर्थक आधार अभी भी खासा मजबूत है। बोलिवेरियन आंदोलन अमेरिका समर्थित पिछली कुलीन सरकारों द्वारा फैलाई गई भारी असमानता से निपटने के लिए शुरू हुआ था। जबरन एक नई व्यवस्था लागू करके, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका वहां के लोगों को “आजाद” नहीं कर रहा है, बल्कि औपनिवेशिक लूट के उनके डर को सही साबित कर रहा है। पाखंड बिल्कुल साफ है। जहां ट्रम्प प्रशासन बिना किसी सार्वजनिक सबूत के मादुरो को एक कार्टेल का मुखिया बताकर उन्हें हटाने को सही ठहरा रहा है, वहीं उसने होंडुरास के मादक पदार्थों की तस्करी के दोषी पूर्व नेता जुआन ऑरलैंडो हर्नांडेज़ को रिहा करने का आदेश दिया और वॉशिंगटन समर्थक नसरी असफुरा को सत्ता में आने में मदद की। शीत युद्ध के बाद एक वैश्वीकृत व एक-दूसरे पर निर्भर दुनिया में एक स्थिर एवं उदार व्यवस्था बनने की उम्मीदें अमेरिका और रूस की हरकतों से बार-बार झूठी साबित हुई हैं। फिर भी, जलवायु समझौतों से पीछे हटकर और टैरिफ युद्ध को बढ़ाकर, संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका ने अंतरराष्ट्रीय नियमों के प्रति ऐसी नफरत दर्शायी है जो दूसरी अन्य भयंकर हरकतों से भी ज्यादा खतरनाक है। वेनेजुएला पर हमला ट्रम्पवाद के इसी अलगाववादी-साम्राज्यवादी मिश्रण की स्वाभाविक व हिंसक परिणति है। अगर अंतरराष्ट्रीय समुदाय चुप्पी साधे रहता है, तो वह एक ऐसे विश्व व्यवस्था को मंज़ूरी देगा जहां संप्रभुता वॉशिंगटन की मर्जी पर निर्भर करेगी।
